24 September 2009

U.S. Ambassador Timothy J. Roemer, visited D&B TransUnion ADC, Chennai to commemorate the Center's second anniversary in Corporate Community Service under the name of Individual Social Responsibility (iDo). Ambassador Roemer was accompanied by the US Consul General Andrew T. Simkin and other officials from the US Embassy in Chennai. The Ambassador and other guests were warmly welcomed by the associates and beneficiaries of the iDo program.

That D&B TransUnion places a premium on social responsibility was never in doubt; the visit by the US Ambassador for the iDo anniversary only underscored that such programs are high on the world's radar also. The program started off with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and a universal prayer for peace. Following a welcome address by Balasubramaniam MS, Trustee of iDo, the audience were presented a brief video on the activities that iDo had taken up in the last year. The keynote address was delivered by the CEO, Mr. N.T.Arunkumar, also the Founder and Author of the iDo initiative. He also announced the upcoming iDo initiatives for the year 2010.

The US Ambassador addressed the audience warmly and eloquently, reminiscing a few of his personal experiences and cherishing the land of Mahatma Gandhi. The Ambassador also interacted with the various beneficiaries of the iDo program also giving away few scholarships, citations and a School Automation Software application that was prepared for one of the beneficiaries - a school for developmentally delayed children. The Ambassador caught a few words with the associates, walking across the facility, talking and shaking hands with them before taking leave of the program.

The iDo Annual report was presented by the Program Manager to all the stakeholders. A brief presentation of techSAI - Technology for Social Application and Innovation, an iDo initiative to bring together concrete efforts to build software applications and IT support for social development causes was shared with the audience. A selection of beneficiaries (we prefer to call them our partners since they give us an opportunity to serve them) then spoke a few words in front of the associates and audience, on their dreams of education and how iDo was helping them fulfill their dreams. The program ended with a vote of thanks and the National Anthem being sung by all the members present.
